Let Girls Play Sports

by Dana on November 29, 2010

I remember the first time I saw the above Nike ad. The little girl informing me, “I will be more likely to leave a man who beats me” if we let her play sports haunted me for days.

The message also empowered me, however, because of the strides I thought we were making with girls and sports and how things could only get better. Apparently change is harder than I expected and assuming a lot has been done within 15 years, was incorrect because girls today still face an unnecessary level of discrimination.

Rally for Girls’ Sports Day

I am therefore asking that if you have a blog, please take the pledge and participate in the rally that the National Women’s Law Center is holding on December 8th. It is essential to share our stories in order to showcase how important playing sports has been in our lives and the lives of people we know.

For those who don’t have a blog but want to participate, please contact me because I am more than happy to post your story so that your voice can be heard in support of this issue.
