FitGift Holiday Guide: Food Is Fuel

While food is already the talk of the town during the year, the to[pic becomes a frenzy of articles and blog posts during the holiday season. The well-framed pictures of decadent pictures on Pinterest alone can have you salivating in seconds.

So this “Food Is Fuel” section of the FitGift Holiday Guide is a return back to simpler times – presenting some snack options and food-related products that will promote health and well being when the cake and cookies are calling.

1. GlassDharma Glass Straws

What Glass Dharma wants you to know:

“Since March of 2007 GlassDharma has been producing glass drinking straws. The  GlassDharma mission is to create world-wide awareness about single use plastics and how damaging plastic straws are to our environment. Glass Straws provide an alternative that eliminates the need for straws made from plastic.

As of the beginning of 2012, GlassDharma’s shipping numbers total over 200,000 straws world-wide. Although that may sound like a large number to some, our goal is to provide glass straws to at least 2% of the American public. With U.S.A. population at about 300 million, this works out to 6 million straws. We certainly have our work cut out for us.

The GlassDharma focus is to do what we can do and what we do best. Single use plastics are not only one of the biggest contributors to plastic pollution, it is also one of the (relatively) easier issues to remedy – at least when it comes to stopping the pollution. Cleaning up what is already there is another topic for discussion.  Our company’s focus is on drinking straws.”

Why Words to Sweat by recommends GlassDharma:

Being conscientious about the food you put into your body also means paying attention to how the food gets there. Single use plastic, as GlassDharma explains above, not only damages the environment but it’s not the healthiest way to drink your beverages. The GlassDharma straws are like putting a glass to your lips without having to tip it. Not only do the drinks taste great, but rinsing requires very little water or you can just place them in your next dishwasher cycle.

2. Bare Snacks Fuji Apple Chips

What Bare Snacks wants you to know:

Bare Snacks® is the creator of delicious Snacks Gone Simple™. Crafted using only real, whole-food ingredients, Bare Snacks helps people enjoy truly good-for-you snacking any time. The company’s cornerstone line, bare (formerly Barefruit®), features a variety of products, including Crunchy Apple Chips, Crunchy Coconut Chips, and Bake-Dried Fruit.

All Bare Snacks are baked not fried, made from real fruit, gluten free, Non-GMO Project Verified,  vegan (except Show me the Honey Coconut Chips), a good source of dietary fiber, and are free of refined sugar, preservatives, cholesterol and trans fats.”

Why Words to Sweat by recommends Bare Snacks:

I blame Costco for bringing Bare Snacks Fuji Apple Chips into my home and adding another healthy snack to our cupboard. They had these in a large, resealable bag and after opening the first one, these became the go-to option for when I wanted something crunchy around 3 PM. Baked apple with dietary fiber that tastes sweet and crunches? They’re a no-brainer.

3. Portion Perfect Bento Box

What Laptop Lunches wants you to know:

“The new Portion Perfect system is a simple and effective bento box that provides the ideal blueprint and on-the-go tools for those looking to create healthy and tasty meals plans that assist in weight loss strategies.

The Bento system comes with 5 compartments precisely portioned for a healthy meal that includes lean proteins, whole grains, vegetables, fruits and healthy fats.”

Why Words to Sweat by recommends the Portion Perfect Bento Box:

When health and fitness become a focus it’s easy to get excited about the great things to come, but can also be daunting when it becomes clear how much there is to do. Getting into a groove with your food is one of the best way to see long-lasting results so using a tool like the Portion Perfect Bento Box takes some of the guesswork out of packing your meals.

4. Dena’s Fuel For Fitness! Chewy Crackers

What Dena’s Fuel For Fitness! wants you to know:

“This line of raw & vegan super healthy snack foods was started by Dena Mangiamele…who was making her own raw, vegan snacks that were so good that others at the gym started placing orders. And voila, a business idea was born!

Dena’s personal fitness and her desire to help others be healthy even got her profiled in a recent issue of Vegan Health & Fitness. But you don’t have to be vegan to LOVE her snacks, which are already taking Whole Foods by storm!”

Why Words to Sweat by recommends Dena’s Fuel For Fitness!:

If you’re looking for a snack option that not only gives you a hint of sweetness but also takes the edge off your munchies, Dena’s Fuel For Fitness! offers chewy crackers that are a great option. 5. Ukonserve Glass Bottles

What Ukonserve wants you to know:

UKonserve was created a little over six years ago by two moms who were fed up with the waste they saw in their kids’ school lunchroom. (Believe it or not a child produces 67 lbs of lunch trash/year!)

They wanted to set an example of conservation not only for their families, but also to provide all families with easy ways to cut down on their personal waste.  Today the line includes food-grade stainless steel, bamboo, reusable plastic bags and wraps and the new glass/silicone collection.  All products are PVC, Lead, Phthalates and BPA free.”

Why Words to Sweat by recommends Ukonserve’s Glass Bottle:

Once you start to remove single-use plastic straws and utensils, it’s a simple step to move on to the larger items like bottles and storage containers. A glass bottle may feel daunting at first but once you get the hang of it, you’ll wonder why it took so long. Mason jars for smoothies are great, but not always as portable as you need. The Ukonserve glass bottle is the perfect option to start using a glass bottle for your daily beverages.
