This month, the Words to Sweat by featured fan is Lauren Giles, the blogger behind Team Giles; this is her story.
Why did you decide to make a healthy change?
Growing up I was never taught to make healthy choices and sadly that continued through my teen years, after high school I knew I couldn’t keep living life so unhealthy and eating junk. I had to make a change, I began to learn what I could about healthy eating and exercise. My journey began there.
What goals did you set and how did you stay motivated?
I always evaluate my fitness and health goals, I like to make a list of things I want to accomplish; run a speedy 5K, finish a half-marathon, do full push-ups, etc. I find that writing goals that I have and talking about them to friends and family helps me stay accountable to the goals I want to complete. If I have a big goal i want to complete, I keep that goal in my sight constantly. Put a note on the refrigerator, blog about it, talk about it, I ask people to help keep me accountable, and it works!
What main changes did you make to your lifestyle that you feel provided the best benefits?
As I’ve been working to lose weight, one of the biggest changes I made to my lifestyle was to food journal, measure my food and weigh it on a scale. It was so eye opening to realize what a proper portion size really is.
What advice do you have for people trying to make the same changes?
Staying consistent is the biggest key to success. It’s easy to lose focus when you’re not seeing the results you want, but knowing that there will be up’s and down’s in whatever journey you’re taking on and knowing that staying focused on your goals will help you achieve the results you want. Never regret a workout, never regret a healthy food choice, never, never, never give up!
